Cindy, who is most famous as Shirley from “Laverne and Shirley,” never got naked on camera.

This Curtis Harrington film is the closest she came, which was not very close.

The real nudity in the film was provided by an actress named Susan Bernard, who was raped in a cold open, before the title and credit sequence. The director obviously didn’t believe in easing the audience into the film.

This is a cute romantic comedy from Spain about a stand-up comic who falls in love with an actor/author in experimental theater. It follows the usual formula of “they love each other – they hate each other – they love each other,” but what makes it clever is that the hate portion of the relationship is acted out while they are on stage together. And they are playing themselves in a play she wrote about their relationship! They try to sabotage each other as much as possible, which ruined the drama, in theory, but ruining the drama actually improved the play. The audience reacted like the audience for Springtime for Hitler – they found the play to be a hilarious comedy, and were really impressed with how realistic the acting was!

Michelle Jenner is the female lead, and she is really a great find, a lovely woman with a great gift for exuberant comedy, ala Meg Ryan. Unfortunately she remains well covered in all the romantic moments, so Maria Hinojosa, as the “other woman,” had to take up the slack. (Not that it’s a bad thing. Maria is gorgeous.)

Italian drama; AKA Nasty Love

After her elderly mother’s strange death, a woman returns to Naples for the funeral and stays to investigate her mother’s final days, confronting family memories in the process.

This is a lavishly mounted new French production from HBO. It takes place in the same universe and portrays the same characters as Dangerous Liaisons, but takes place some years earlier, portraying how the Marquise de Merteuil gained her power.

The Marquise de Merteuil is the corrupt, scheming woman portrayed by Glenn Close and Annette Bening in previous adaptations of this story about pre-revolutionary French sybarites. In this prequel, the cynical manipulator of the future begins as an innocent orphan seduced by the callous Valmont, who assumes a false identify and pretends to marry her, then disappears. This humiliation makes her determined for revenge. She sets out to obtain the skills necessary to seduce a rich, titled man, thus obtaining power of her own.

In addition to Anamaria, there is also a scene with unidentified extras at a debauched party, ala Eyes Wide Shut.
