“Cheese skipper flies, Piophila casei, lay their eggs in cracks that form in cheese, usually fiore sardo, the island’s salty pecorino. Maggots hatch, making their way through the paste, digesting proteins in the process, and transforming the product into a soft creamy cheese. Then the cheesemonger cracks open the top — which is almost untouched by maggots — to scoop out a spoonful of the creamy delicacy. It’s not a moment for the faint-hearted. At this point, the grubs inside begin to writhe frantically.”

Wonder Woman? I believe I used to eat her bread. Buffalo Bob told me that it helps build strong bodies 8 ways, and that I should look for the red, yellow and blue balloons printed on the wrapper.

I wonder if I was the only one bewildered one day when I tuned into some show or another and found that Wonder Bread was now building strong bodies 12 ways, although Buffalo Bob had only claimed 8 ways. I have never solved what may be mankind’s most persistently puzzling mystery – the case of the four additional ways. I suspect that riboflavin may be somehow responsible. Riboflavin always “did it.” It’s the butler of vitamins.

By the way, this bread somehow still exists.
