Nostalgia: Don “No Soul” Simmons

A young David Alan Grier played one of the greatest characters in the history of comedy films. A black man born with no soul, “No Soul” turned this tragic affliction into a musical career by doing covers of cornball whitebread songs.

  1. I enjoyed Amazon Women on the Moon, which was a sequel of sorts to the Kentucky Fried Movie (1977) of a decade earlier. Now the Kentucky Fried Movie will always have a special place in my… well warped mind. That’s because my dad took me to see that movie in the theater when I was 9 years old. Anyone who has seen that movie will understand just how my mind came to be so warped. My father was the king of taking his kids to see inappropriate movies. He took my younger brothers and I to see Richard Pryor Live on the Sunset Strip when I was 14 and my brothers were 8 and 11. My 8-year-old brother laughed all the way through, but when we left the theater he said “He’s not really funny but people laugh because he says fuck alot.” I miss my dad…
