The look of the site. Options.

I personally like the redesign, but a couple of you have commented that you do not. If you prefer the old black/aqua style, you can switch back by clicking on “Use old theme” at the very bottom of “Key Links.” I do not recommend it, because I’m now creating the page with the new format in mind, so some things will look funky. If you do try it and want to escape, you can then find the comparable link at the bottom of the “Key links” in the old layout. Obviously, the text to be clicked in this case will read “Use new theme.”

Again, I do not recommend it, and I prefer that you not switch to the old theme.

If you miss being able to read the headlines and a text snippet without the pictures, a viable alternative is to use the RSS feed with one of the standard RSS readers. (I use the free version of Feedly, but I’m sure there must be others as good or better.) That is, in fact, how I read about 75% of the sites I check daily. If they have an RSS feed I use it. That lets me check something like 30 websites from a single page.

  1. fwald,
Without the pictures one can easily look at the headlines at work. With pictures it’s not possible. I’ve deleted my bookmark at work and moved on. There are enough sites in the world that losing one is no biggie.

    1. Sorry to see you go. If you want to scan the headlines and text snippets (sans pictures) to see which links might be worthwhile, you can always use the RSS feed. I don’t have an issue with my work computer, but I have a limited amount of time, so I read about 30 sites a day with RSS feeds.

  2. I like the new layout and navigation better.

I liked the old dark color scheme better.

I’m assuming that those making the NSFW comments are speaking figuratively, since I can’t believe that scoopy.net would be considered safe for work even without any pictures.

  3. Fair point.

I changed it to the following:

    Links are in red, underlined.

Visited links are in black and look just like text except underlined so you can see where they were.

Hovered links and active links are in red, bold, no underline

  4. I like the new look, but I show visited links in red, and I can’t tell which ones are new. Thanks for the option to go to the old look.

  5. Yeah, like the others have said I would like the option of clicking on NSFW links rather than have them just show up as soon as the site loads. Also, as a nod to the old site would it work on the white background if the links were blue green instead of red?

  6. Hi Scoop,

I agree with Fallen, just a bit NSFW, but for the rest of the site, I actually like the new layout.

    Keep it up.. metaphorically speaking.

    Greg

  7. Hi Scoop,

The only thing I don’t prefer are the thumbnail/pics on the front page. It somewhat makes the site NSFW when the first thing I see is Amber Heard’s ass. Not that I don’t mind Amber Heard’s ass, but I’d prefer to not have instant nudity when I open the page, in case someone is looking over my shoulder.

    Just my thoughts there.
