Trump denies saying Sessions ‘mentally retarded’

UPDATED:

That may or may not be true. I have no way of knowing, but I suspect it is not, because he followed up that denial with a flagrant lie, claiming that he “never used those terms on anyone.”

He got in trouble before he became President for using the very same language to describe the deaf actress Marlee Matlin, back in his Apprentice days.

And, almost needless to say, he has used the r-word on tape.

Gee, it’s so difficult to know who to believe:

Bob Woodward?

Or the guy who’s lying?

Especially when the guy who’s lying just told Woodward, “You’ve always been fair” in a taped conversation.

I once sat next to Bob Woodward on a plane flight and found him to be an utter bore in person, even though I’ve always liked his books. He can’t be as dim as he seems because he graduated from Yale, but the strange, slow, almost childish way that he talks makes him sound simple-minded. Perhaps his ability to convey cluelessness is what makes him a great fly-on-the-wall journalist, because everyone underestimates him and speaks freely around him.

  1. “In 2014, Robert Gates former director of the CIA and Secretary of Defense, said that he wished he’d recruited Woodward into the CIA, saying, ‘He has an extraordinary ability to get otherwise responsible adults to spill [their] guts to him…his ability to get people to talk about stuff they shouldn’t be talking about is just extraordinary and may be unique.’ “
