White House Asks for List of Top Spies During Intelligence Shakeup

This is a complicated situation.

Dan Coats has stepped down as the DNI. The process to replace him could be lengthy and contentious. Trump had planned to nominate Rep. John Ratcliffe, but bipartisan criticism caused him to step back from that selection, further delaying the installation of a permanent director.

Therefore, by law, the deputy director becomes the acting director. Trump has a problem with that because the current deputy director is an apolitical, competent career intelligence officer who will present the facts objectively, while Trump wants to install an unprincipled lackey who will echo his own pronouncements, no matter how ignorant they may be. (Among the facts Trump didn’t like: “Russia interfered with the election”; “North Korea has not halted its nuclear program”; “Iran was in full compliance with the treaty.”)

It’s purely speculation, but this seems to mean that the deputy director position will be vacated in a time frame approximately concurrent with Coats’ actual exit. If the posts of DNI and deputy director are both vacant, the law allows Trump a variety of alternatives (hence the request for the list), and one of those alternatives may allow him to install a partisan toady as the acting DNI.

  1. A recession is defined as “a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than two quarters which is 6 months, normally visible in real gross domestic product (GDP), real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales.”

No recession has begun under a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter, and before that one must go all the way back to Truman! In contrast, there has been a recession started under every previous Republican presidency except the short-lived Ford administration.

    ———-

    There were three under Ike

    None under JFK or LBJ

    There were two under Nixon

    None under Ford

There was one under Jimmy Carter

There was one under Reagan and one under Bush the Elder.

    There were none under Clinton

There were two under Bush the Younger, including the worst one, which lasted 18 months.

There were none under Obama or Trump. We have now gone 10 years and one month without a recession, the longest period without a recession in American history. That broke the record by one month (April 1991 until March 2001)

  2. Are you a fucking idiot or something?

Obama put us in a recession?!

The recession started in DECEMBER of 2007! Obama did not even become President until January of 2009!

The recession lasted until June of 2009!

And the reason for the recession was the same reason we had the depression: lack of regulation. Are that THAT fucking dense that you believe letting the rich do whatever they want allows for the greatest good of everyone, when each time it happens – shocker – we go into a recession or depression!

And then, shocker, the next liberal President pulls us out of it! FDR did with the New Deal and Obama did last time. And, for the third time, it will be once Trump sinks this ship and once again, you morons will blame someone else.

Could it be that when you let greedy, evil sociopaths do whatever they want it – *gasp* doesn’t lead to the best thing?

You can’t even get your timelines straight, but it’s not surprising when you morons jump on FOX News and blame Obama for 9-11 too.

Anything you said in the past, present, or future is invalidated by the idiocy you just displayed there. Maybe if you get off of FOX News propaganda and go use some fucking logic and look at a calendar, you may be able to save some of the few remaining cells in that pet rock that you call a brain, dumbass.

  3. Yeah rough times. Had to deal with a President pulling a country out of a gigantic recession, and fight an obstructionists who had a bitch fit because he kept health insurers from refusing people with cancer instead of adding to their bottom line.

Those FOX News propaganda stories about the deficit and his vacations are looking pretty fucking stupid and hypocritical now, aren’t they?

  4. The Bent,

I don’t know who will win, certainly Russia/Putin may provide a great deal of help to Trump again, however, Trump has been at 42% approval for pretty much the entirety of his Presidency, and with any other President at that level, the discussion would be more along the lines of how bad a landslide defeat will they suffer.

1.If you don’t like personal insults, why do you support a President who uses them?

It seems you have no problem with them as long as they aren’t directed at you. So, you’re a pretty low class person.

2.I’m 48. Obviously the technology has changed pretty significantly to allow for greater Russian interference. It’s Traitor Trump and Moscow Mitch who are the Putin admirers. I think you already know that, but it’s hard to know with a low class person like you.

  5. So where are the Senate votes coming from particularly now that this is becoming a party line thing?
It would end up being like the nonsense where Boehner let the House Tea Party idiots ritually repeal Obamacare every other week.
Feelgoodism, symbolic actions, and getting nothing actually done – the wonderful world of progressives.
I want to see Trump gone as much as anyone but this stuff isn’t going to do it.

  6. This would be a fine time for Pelosi to get off the dime and start impeaching Trump. It would be a good reason to announce for doing it now. And it would shine a floodlight on Trump’s actions at this time.

  7. Why don’t we just let Putin make the appointment. It’d be quicker, more honest, and get us to the exact same place.
