Trump’s approval is waning

This poll is relatively significant. The WaPo/ABC poll is the only one rated A+ by the statistics nerds at the 538 site.

The key findings are:

  • Trump’s approval has dropped by six points in two months.
  • The drop is correlated to fears of an economic slowdown.
  • We can now see more specifically how Trump is losing the uneducated whites that represent the fundaments of his support. This poll breaks that group down by gender. It turns out that Trump’s support is actually increasing among uneducated white males (now 69%, up 5 points), but is dropping drastically among their female counterparts (now 42%, down 12 points)
  • Trump’s rating is also plummeting among college educated white males. The drop was a precipitous 15 points in just two months, from 49% approval to 34%.

  1. Bottom line. I don’t approve of the job Trumps doing because of his antics. However I will vote for him any day against the looney toon nut jobs running from the dems. If it’s warren, Harris, Sanders, or one of the other momos, trump gets my vote regardless. I will vote AGAINST them like I voted against Hilary. Biden is the only dem I’d vote for. There are lots of independents like me out there.

    1. Wait – Elizabeth Warren is a loony toon nut job, and compared to her, Trump is a better President? Really? Really?? Really???

      1. I’m fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Fiscally Warren is an insane loon and that’s where my vote is decided. I voted for Bill Clinton twice and I voted for Romney (my first ever gop vote). I’ll never vote for tax and spend progressives.

        1. This is not a fiscally conservative Administration. Even if Mulvaney says he’s a “budget hawk”, presiding over a $1T budget deficit says otherwise.
Comparing Trump to Bernie or Warren on a fiscal basis is, like my old man used to say, comparing poor with piss-poor.

        2. Bill, you’re fighting the good fight here, but it’s harder than you might think to win a battle of wits vs. an unarmed opponent.

          1. Not germane to this but the Bercow told a hooting Borisite MP yesterday. “I could not give a flying flamingo what your view is”. It’s like Monty P come back to life.

        3. Trump is sane and Elizabeth Warren is an insane loon????

I am very curious about the workings of your mind. I think you may be one of those people whose money is the most important thing to them on this earth, and it is all you really care about. Otherwise, I cannot understand how you think. (Or rather, I think you are either kidding or a Putin-paid troll.)

That is a good mindset for becoming a billionaire. It is not good for choosing a president who will benefit a majority of the people of the United States. (“Trickle down” economics does not count, because it does not work.)

          1. Money is the most important thing to me on this earth. Correct. Because as long as I earn it, I should get to decide how it’s spent.

  2. Trump has never been popular, and never will be popular. His popularity rating will probably always be in the 35-44% range.

I think the only issue is whether America will dislike the Democratic candidate more, which I find a distinct possibility. There’s also the hard reality that the electoral college doesn’t always reflect the popular vote, so I would more interested in Trump’s approval in states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

Trump also has a 82 percent approval rating from Republicans, which makes any primary challenge a fool’s errand.
