It’s Roger Stone’s turn in the barrel.

Trump’s eccentric friend will soon go on trial. We don’t know much about what the prosecutors have on him because almost everything about that subject was censored from the Mueller Report in respect of an ongoing investigation.

We do know:

  • He admitted he was in contact with Assange during the 2016 campaign.
  • He admitted he was in contact with somebody who turned out to be Russian intelligence.
  • He admitted he was also in contact with Trump at the same time. Trump also admitted to the contact.

All of that sounds very bad, but you have to remember that Stone is both a liar and a complete buffoon, so his public admissions mean very little or nothing. The trial may (or may not) reveal the truth, as opposed to his previous lies and misunderstandings.

——

For example:

Stone later claimed that he had lied and was just posturing about his contact with Assange. He apparently refuted his original lie with a new lie that he was in “indirect” contact with Assange. (That correction was also a lie if we are to believe Assange, who said there was neither contact with Stone nor a channel to Stone. Then again, should we believe Assange?)

Stone (apparently) did not realize that he was in contact with Russian intelligence. I believe him because he hilariously claimed that it was his hacker-contact Guccifer 2.0 who hacked the DNC, not the Russians. That was particularly naive because Guccifer 2.0 was actually a fictional person created by Russian intelligence, so in trying to communicate that the Russians had not done it, he was in essence confessing that the Russians HAD done it!

what a maroon

As for the communication between Trump and Stone, they claim that they had not discussed Wikileaks at all. Well, sort of. Trump actually responded to the Mueller investigation as follows, “I do not recall discussing WikiLeaks with [Stone], nor do I recall being aware of Mr. Stone having discussed WikiLeaks with individuals associated with my campaign.” This “I do not recall” comes from the man who claims to have a magnificent memory.

Short answer: “Guilty.”

Long answer: “Incredibly guilty.”

You anti-Trumpers should not get your hopes up about Trump perjuring himself in a sworn statement. Trump never denied that they had discussions about Wikileaks. He simply offered the usual weaselly dodge that he could not recall it. It is virtually impossible to prove what somebody did or didn’t recall at a a specific point in time.
