Tim Morrison, the top Russia and Europe adviser on President Trump’s National Security Council, testified to “a push by Trump and his deputies to withhold both security aid and a White House visit for the Ukrainian president until Ukraine agreed to investigate the Bidens and interference in the 2016 presidential election.”

  1. But saw nothing wrong in that… Must have a version of the constitution that Donald has… The picture book version with all the big naughty words crossed out.

    1. Very true. Morrison admitted that the quid pro quo happened, but saw nothing wrong with it.

I think this will be the last stand in the defense offered by Trump’s apologists. As it becomes more and more obvious that the quid pro quo absolutely existed, the only possible defense will be that it was not an impeachable offense, but just political “business as usual.” That’s not much of a defense, but they have nothing else.

Mulvaney was obviously trying to lay the groundwork for this defense in his ill-fated press encounter: “We do that all the time … get over it.” He was too clumsy to pull it off, but he was obviously working from the talking points.

      1. They were my thoughts Ed Zachary.

        Story goes:

Perfect call, whistle-blower is partisan, no quid pro quo.

Perfect call, all witnesses never trumpers, besmirch honoured veterans and non partisan official, quid pro quo, investigation is not legal.

Perfect call, not up to an impeachable standard, hope everyone forgets a the lies and shit thrown at anybody who hasn’t pledged fealty to the Orange God King

Senate votes along party lines, yes it happened but not a big deal, BAU but now with no guardrails on the President at all.

Trump after.. . I was fully acquitted, deep state beaten again, gets re-elected, with increased majority because of obvious gerrymangering, declares himself forever president *winks to Putin and Xi and sly smile to Kim…

America goes the way of the Roman Empire with an obvious mad bastard at the helm.

Listen to the sounds of fiddle playing while the union burns.

      2. When I hear Portman, who is smart and essentially decent, not to mention an Ohioan, trotting out the bad but not impeachable crap, I’m thinking there’s no hope that the Senate will do its duty. Or to go historical, there will be no replay of Goldwater telling Nixon to get his sorry ass out of the White House.
The odious Ingraham inadvertently let the cat out of the bag when (in regard to Vindman) she was shrieking about those “going against the President’s interests”. I’ve always given a certain credence to the “character writ large” thing, “lookism” though it be. She used to be halfway babely. Nowadays I’d sooner jump Lena Dunham’s bones. Neither actually (I didn’t click).
National interests be damned as well as friendly countries and actual allies. The President’s interests come first. My old party is now for all practical purposes a cult.
The Dems had damn well better focus on evicting the creature first and instituting Progressive Paradise later.
Otherwise as the Russian husband of a Treasury friend of mine would say,” we are going to the pots.”
