Kathryn Harrold in Modern Romance (1981)

She occupies a prominent place on my list of women who should have gotten naked a lot more. For that matter, she’s also on my list of actresses who should have had better careers than they actually did, right up there with Jennifer Ehle. Harrold wasn’t a really outstanding actress like Ehle, but she had a special quality that always made her appealing and sympathetic on screen. And of course she was mighty easy on the eyes.

Did you know that she was married for about 20 years to MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell? And then they were divorced, so that was truly The Final Word. If you did know that, you’re a step ahead of me. I just discovered it.

Harrold is 70 years old now and works as a marriage therapist.

  1. Yes, she was gorgeous. I saw every movie of hers that I could. Sadly, few of them were very good. “A Modern Romance” might be the best, at least to me. She was in an odd but effective little horror movie called “The Sender” (1982) that sticks in my mind. And oh my god, she was Jim Rockford’s blind girlfriend! My memory is slipping; I used to know that, but now I only remembered because I had to look up the title of “the Sender” on IMDB.

    1. She was in a lot of stinkers. Remember “Yes, Giorgio”? Sigourney Weaver turned that role down, then Kate Jackson did as well, but Harrold said, “Just spell my name right on the check.”

      1. Hey, with a new leading man, a new story, a new director, and a new title, it could have been pretty darn adequate! Maybe not “Casablanca”, but better than “Casablanca 2: Electric Boogaloo”.

  2. Absolutely!! Always thought she was attractive and should have had should have been naked more!
