LaPorta is a former Marine.

“Prior to journalism, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a infantry rifleman. From 2006 until 2014, Mr. LaPorta worked in multiple leadership billets, serving as a infantry squad leader, a combat marksmanship instructor and an intelligence cell chief. He deployed multiple times to Afghanistan.”

LaPorta did not believe Goldberg’s story when he read it. Then he started calling his contacts and found it that the story was accurate down the line. There are now six sources confirming the story: four of Goldberg’s, two of LaPorta’s. (They may overlap, so the total may be as low as four, but no lower.)

As I understand it, Gen. Kelly has declined to comment publicly on the story.

Some of those “losers and suckers” simply didn’t have the options afforded to Trump. There was a draft through the Vietnam era. Many of those conscripted in Vietnam, for example, were poor kids who had no money for college, and had no access to a pliable family doctor who could excuse them for bone spurs. They simply had to go, as Trump would have, had he not had a zillionaire father.

It’s also important to understand how such comments by a U.S. President might undermine his own authority. Those “losers and suckers” had many reasons for doing what they did, but the immediate and direct reason for both draftees and volunteers was that they were obeying orders from a line of command that ultimately traces back to the commander-in-chief. Trump is basically arguing that obeying the President is for “losers and suckers.”

In his brilliantly crafted response, Trump lied and said he never called John McCain a loser. (He did – and tweeted about it!)

Full disclosure on personal bias: I never served in the military, only because of a high lottery number. I was thrilled to avoid Vietnam, but I am highly grateful to those who serve on behalf of my country, thus taking risks to make my life safer. In fact, one of my sons is a career military man currently serving as an O-5.

  1. “No one in this world, so far as I know—and I have researched the records
for years, and employed agents to help me—has ever lost money by
underestimating the intelligence of the great masses of the plain people.
Nor has anyone ever lost public office thereby.”

    — H.L. Mencken, The Chicago Tribune, September 19, 1926.

  2. Late to the party, but …

“Good luck living your very sad, victimized life Mr C”

Projection to the nth degree! 😮

Indeed, lack of composure and a total ass so at least Midwest Con is kinda, sorta self aware lol.

Let me sum up up his feeble, nonsensical, idiotic deflection defense of scumbag Trump. But, but, but Carter Carter Carter, Clinton Clinton Clinton, Obama Obama Obama, Hillary Hillary Hillary. The same argument(s) they’ve had for the last (40/50) yrs! Changing the subject whataboutism.

Bottom line Trump was born a dick, raised a dick and will die a dick! Daddy having to bail him out on day one re: all his failed business attempts, bankruptcies, code violations, racial violations, business scams always having to settle out of court to escape jail time notwithstanding.

Finally how does one lose $100,000,000 in the Clinton boom yrs of the 1990’s? Rhetorical. Yielding back the balance of my time.

  3. Fox News does real news. I’m waiting to hear how the Unholy Trinity of Tucker, Hannity, and Ingraham from the Talking Heads Group (or whatever they call it) try to spin it.

    1. They’ll either go with ex-officials are bitter, or they’ll spin Trump’s comments as not that bad.

“He was honoring the veterans by pointing out their selflessness that they didn’t get money from it!”

Now they’ve got Melania tweeting about it. You know its a five alarm fire when they have to call on her to help. Obviously she would know her husband never lies .. or cheats. Right?

  4. And Fox News national security correspondent confirmed it too. So even Fox News, so now what’s the pivot Trump cultists?

    Jennifer Griffin
    @JenGriffinFNC

According to one former senior Trump administration official: “When the President spoke about the Vietnam War, he said, ‘It was a stupid war. Anyone who went was a sucker’.”

This former official heard the President say about American veterans: “What’s in it for them? They don’t make any money.” Source: “It was a character flaw of the President. He could not understand why someone would die for their country, not worth it.”

I read the source a few quotes from The Atlantic article. This former Trump admin official said, “The President would say things like that. He doesn’t know why people join the military. He would muse, ‘Why do they do it’?”

Regarding Trump’s July 4th military parade, during a planning session at the White House after seeing the Bastille Day parade in 2017, the President said regarding the inclusion of “wounded guys” “that’s not a good look” “Americans don’t like that,” source confirms.

Regarding McCain, “The President just hated John McCain. He always asked, ‘Why do you see him as a hero?” Two sources confirmed the President did not want flags lowered but others in the White House ordered them at half mast. There was a stand off and then the President relented.

  5. Well at least one good unintended thing came out of all this. Trump had to do a 180 about shutting down the “Stars and Stripes”, the GI’s newspaper. The optics would have been unbelievably bad. And Congress might have actually put their foot down for once. Apparently even in the Internet Age it’s the only daily news source, other than Armed Forces Radio for lots of troops out in the boonies. Not the best paper in the world but I appreciated it when the main papers from the World somehow weren’t making deliveries to the Greater Munsan Metropolitan Area in Korea.
Esper is almost as big a dolt as his boss and that is saying something.

  6. I was wondering how true the article really was. Because the “multiple anonymous sources” can always be made up. But I guess this is beyond a reasonable doubt.

Unless LaPorta and Goldberg are both lying about their sources.

We see that in NFL free agency.

    1. Obviously Trump is the utmost gentleman in private, completely opposite his behavior in public, and all four sources and the story which could get The Atlantic sued for libel if false should be ignored.

Meanwhile, here’s this qAnon story about how the Clinton’s run an underground sex ring with crisis actors tied to the deep state. Obviously a reputable, reasonable thing we need to investigate!

Not saying you’re on Trump’s side here, because you’re not an idiot like Brobonk – but these sorts of things are in Trump’s scope of behavior that he’s even gone public with. He wouldn’t call McCain a loser .. but surprise, surprise – someone already dug up something in his Twitte retweeting calling McCain a loser.

And it’s funny how its all ‘fake news’, but you don’t see Trump ever taking these places to court for libel. And how he goes off on leaks and tries to track down leakers = obviously because he never, ever says this stuff right? He knows in discovery in a legal action, he would get destroyed and there would be plenty of receipts on everything he said.

Once Trump is out of office, these people will be on the record, otherwise Trump will just fire them and get some nutjob to take their place. The lame duck months of the Trump era with one of his cultists in charge of DoD areas is as bad as it could get.

  7. Lest we forget, Trump also lied to the faces of men and women serving in combat zone — which was his first combat zone visit I believe — saying, or lying rather, that they haven’t received a raise in 10 years and he’s giving them 10+% raise, both of which have been rated as pants-on-fire lies.

Trump is one twisted human being, as are the Trump’s true believers.

    1. It’s not fiction when he says this shit in public. Surprise, surprise – the guy ignorant piece of shit who takes potshots, lies, and doesn’t have a bit of intelligence in public does even more of it when the mics aren’t on.

Feel free to let everyone know in about eight weeks how your physical therapy goes on your back after bending over and taking it from Trump for four years straight.

      1. Tanner, can you actually form a thought instead of just name calling?

It is nice that you are using a thesaurus to come up with some new adjectives but calling someone an imbecile for saying that a report is entertaining fiction is just silly.

Do you ever wonder why someone says that or do you just type the first thing that pops into your head? You don’t know this guy/gal,being or what ever pronoun this individual prefers to use or is it OK to make up our own pronouns for everyone in today’s times?

Can you please tell me your actual thoughts and reasoning behind them. I just don’t understand your insulting responses with out backup unless you are a BOT just here to beat the drum.

        1. MidCon, we are all familiar with Brobonk here, and he can fairly be described as an imbecile. If you think he is not, please feel free to prove it.

I note with interest that you, like Steverino, who is another semi-regular here, claim to be highly prosperous and a job creator to boot. May I say I find it unlikely that the person you claim to be would be posting at such length here? Running a company you own with 150+ employees takes CONSIDERABLE time. It also tends to encourage brevity and adherence to concrete facts, rather then argumentation and rhetoric. (I myself am retired, and so have ample time to spare.)

I hope I am not misjudging you, but I find your claims as dubious as Steverino’s. (He has multiple degrees from Ivy League universities and lives in NYC!)

          1. And do you ever look at the time stamps? I honestly sleep 3-4 hrs a night. Shoot me your number and I would be more than happy to call and share my personal information (in my free time) as long as you share yours and you can see who I am and what I do every day.

Literally overheard (2) 20 something white males bragging about looting this morning while grabbing a cup of coffee. I promptly told them both what I thought about their life choices and asked that they make better decisions because something bad could happen and I was the bad guy… Best part was when they got into their mom and dad’s BMW and sped off in the parking lot almost hitting a woman and her daughter while flipping me off.

I can see the headline already “Driver strikes woman and child fleeing from an altercation with a Trump supporter”. This is the messed up reality we live in today, makes me very, very sad for those that have their heads in the sand.

I’m fired up today, really fired up and want to point out the wrongs in others thoughts as my therapy.

I will pay for this in the time I have spent but willing to donate my time if I can get even 1 person to stop and open their eyes…

So if you want to judge me have the balls to know me first. I am simply pointing out the items I disagree with and not attacking anyone. Alright I may have insulted Tanner for his lack of thought and simple name calling however you must note I did give him credit for use of outside tools as well to come up with new adjectives.

Please let me know if you would like to talk I would be more than happy to talk.

          2. Here’s the deal Midwest – why are you so focused on the anecdotal rather than systemic issues? Do I particularly like it when I say, see some zombie addicts who made poor life choices float around outside a business? Not really. Would I much prefer this societal ill didn’t happen, especially seeing people in or around my family get involved with it? Definitely.

You could apply this to anything, any crime, any problems. How do you address it then? Well you certainly could do what you did and get pissed off, and then the only thing you ever do is support more authority, harsher punishment, etc, etc. When has this strategy EVER worked though to make things better? The War of Drugs was a complete failure, and no one in their right mind wants a Chinese authoritarian state and thinks its a way to handle societal ills.

Take the emotion and anecdotal nature out of it, and look at it as a system. I don’t care in the way the system is fixed, whether someone else gets something I don’t – because lecturing and saying work harder while giving more to the rich obviously is not the answer. As long as the method works, and there are plenty of methods used that work in a variety of societal ills proven either in the past or the present in various countries, I don’t care in which way it gets done.

When you see some looter breaks a window of a small business and steals hundreds worth of stuff, that’s abhorrent. So then, wouldn’t the same logic be when a political group is doing the same thing behind the scenes at a thousand times the scale through tax breaks, corporate welfare, and corruption to run mall businesses off the market – that would be MUCH more of the important issue?

That’s basically what happens. Conservatives watch propaganda that takes say, a garbage fire in a city drops it on Fox News and says US cities are burning. When if you actually LIVE in those cities, see it amounts to less than a city block or two that’s little less than a drive around inconvenience. Then behind the scenes when Amazon, Wal-Mart, Apple, etc are getting huge tax breaks to turn this country into a corpocracy and do a million times the damage of some tiny anecdotal scenario, its ignored.

You’re worried about getting angry with people over pennies while you allow the suits to steal the whole damn bank.

          3. Midwest isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. That should be clear from his comments today. Perfect for a cult follower.

  8. A while back one of the regulars commented that he couldn’t understand the hatred toward Trump a lot of us show. Well, my opinion of the man going back probably 30 years or more was always that he was an insufferable egomaniac , a con man, and just an all-around asshole. But as a Vet, who was damn happy he wound up in Korea (and then San Francisco) rather than Nam, I really started loathing the creature when stuff like the McCain comment and the bit with the Gold Star father whose son had been killed in Iraq (in 2004) supposedly on account of Obama policies came out. I have no doubt of the genuineness of these latest revelations. What a rotter.

    1. People who are blinded by politics don’t seem to realize that Trump has always been a total ass, a scofflaw, and an incompetent. He was a douchebag when he was supporting liberal causes (which he did), and he was a douchebag when he ignored politics completely. He’s just a creep, and always has been.

      1. Which is more insane considering he’s on no side, has been denounced by the Bush family, Romney, McCain, Mattis, and countless others on the conservative side.

Part of me thinks the day before election night I’m going to wake up to Rod Serling explaining the alternative universe I fell into four years ago. Somehow despite every bit of evidence to the contrary a cult formed around a two bit third rate reality star and business owner, without a bit of intelligence, empathy, or qualification.

      2. Hope you are referring to both of them as creeps, they both fit most all of the adjectives you laid out above…

        1. When you say “they”, are you referring to Donald Trump and Donald Jr., or Donald Trump and Eric Trump, MidCon? Either would be appropriate here. So would many others, like Stephen Miller, Steve Bannion, Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo and on and on and on and on.

          1. Take from that what you you would like.

Good luck living your very sad, victimized life Mr Cornelison.

Take from that from it what you would like…

    2. I am fairly sure you are speaking of me and you are inaccurately summarizing my statements.

Let me dumb this down, I am saying is that an anonymous report dominates headlines with little to no reporting about the Cuomo tape, Pelosi’s salon trip or Biden’s flip flopping, quid pro quo, Ukrainian connection/Hunter’s pay or history of sexual assault is complete irresponsible reporting that is being done to only drive the wedge deeper.

I am not blinded of the Don’s shortcomings as I have stated these over and over again but the divide caused by partition politics is being driven by only 1 side. Honestly I do believe we need an ass in the white house, look at what has been going on for decades. Now the CHAOS that is happening in the streets of some of our major cities while we have liberal lawmakers demanding the de-funding of the police, military or other law enforcement?

There is injustice all across our country and the irresponsible reporting taking place by ALL is just making these divides even deeper. Put the F*(@!ng politics aside, shut up and do what is best for our countries. Each of you have kids or grandchildren that see this and will inherit this mess we are making. Put it all aside and think about them for a while and drop this sh!t or look at both sides with open eyes. What would have happened to each of you if you acted these ways growing up, I for one would have had my a$$ kicked by my parents.. Today this behavior us being denied of even existing public ally and even encouraged by Democratic lawmakers to further divide us and you cant even see this? The worst offender is Biden’s running mate yet 1/2 of the population cant even see it or blame the other side?

Someone mentioned Bush (who used 911 to cover up the trillions misplaced by the pentagon and spent trillions in the middle east) Romney is not a conservative and is so by name only, and McCain, even thou I did vote for the man I would not have voted in that election given the options and what I have learned or seen since that point in my life.
I can’t associate with any of these 3 politically given my life experiences since but yet you make this connection without even asking a question but referring to me? You can’t compare this president with anyone that has been in the establishment and that is a very good and very bad thing.

I often wonder why I even waste my time trying to talk to people rationally about these items but I always come back to the belief that genuinely most all people are good and really should open their eyes and look at both sides before they just condemn the other.

      1. Inherit the mess being made? Irony you’re talking about kids and grandchildren when you directly support torching the earth so a few oil barons and Saudis can live like gods. If I were your kids or grandkids, I would disown you for who and what you support to be quite honest.

It’s funny how you’ve rationalized your mind to become a cult of this man, that now anyone who ever is against him, from McCain, to Romney, to Mattis, to anyone who speaks out against this fool is now the ‘other side.’

And Republicans have caused their own problems with civil disobedience thanks to letting the problem of authoritarianism and wealth run wild as a part of their platform for decades.

Back the blue and back the military right? Look at the murder of Kyle Dinkheller that was caused by a veteran with PTSD from Vietnam. Which President has pushed through cuts for the VA that causes people like this to have these problems in the first place? Unless the dollar is going to a bomb, Republican’s could give a shit else about after the fact.

And who continues the proliferation of weapons to put the police in these positions to be paranoid to begin with? There hasn’t been a meaningful gun law passed in 26 years, yet you say you back the police? But which side is it that blocks a bill even the SLIGHTEST check and balance on getting one? Guess those conservatives love officers being put in the position of psychopaths being able to get them.

And what about the FBI finding the infiltration of Neo Nazis in the police force? That was ignored. The same way it was ignored when a rookie cop tried to get a POS ‘careerer’ off the back of the guy he murdered that caused this situation to begin with.

Then conservatives love to say its a few bad apples, when the good cops who do report these things or try to speak out get fired. Those who stand up to corruption get fired for doing so. And who’s there to block every police reform bill of any kind that comes to the Senate?

You’re definitely right there’s one side causing the issue, but it’s too bad the simple minded ‘good ole boys’ can’t see beyond their nose to see who it is. Support letting an arsenal of weapons onto the street that police have to deal with, spit out anything veteran related once they’re not dropping bombs, allow neo-Nazi’s into the police force unchecked, and push the good cops out in droves when they speak out against it.

Like every conservative, they love their empty platitudes and flags, but in the end are snakes who cause the issue to begin with.

        1. And this is where we differ, it must really be terrible to be the victim all the time!

We have withdrawn form conflict around the world, working on peace in the middle east and have N. Korea under control. How is it that we only have this shit in our country? The Nadler interview stating that this is made up and just a problem created in Washington and doesn’t exist anywhere else says it all and the fact that you cant even see this blows me away.

Please quit talking in general terms, and be specific about the your claims of McCain, Romney and such? I was opposed to Romney when he ran, didn’t agree then and really don’t today. McCain, I ask that you just stop and openly look at the information, connections and ties that this man had and hid/or was sheltered from us because of his involvement with the intelligence community.

Speaking of the VA, it has been a broken system this is a veteran from Vietnam, what happened in the decades since Vietnam? Where has adequate care been for veterans? VA approval is thru the roof in the last year since sweeping change and reform has been made.

We need reform, and unjust behavior has to become accountable. You mention Neo-Nazi’s on police forces, what the hell does that have to do with a conversation about our president? Are they not hired at the local level? What about the FBI spying on US citizens, political campaigns (not Whitewater) and the creation of fiction that led us down a hole that cost the country millions, caused divide and is the reason for this debate today? This was paid for and created on behalf of the DNC, paid for by the Clinton’s via a law firm and still used as gospel today???????

Gun control, how the hell will making another law about guns stop someone that is already breaking the law? I am sorry bad people are bad people.

If conservatives are snakes then liberals like you are the cancer that we need to cut out of this country before the chemo that we desperately need…

Lets keep slinging mud, I can go on all day here…

          1. *** Watergate not the other Clinton paid for scandal in Whitewater.

I better be careful before I end up on “The List”

          2. I’m not a registered Democrat, so I don’t worship the Clintons, so I’m not sure why you conservatives try to have these ‘gotcha’ moments over the Clintons. Who gives a fuck about the Clintons?

The difference is both Clintons are generally disliked by most on the left outside of the neo-liberal old guard. It’s bizarre what obsession you guys have over this stuff. Meanwhile there’s never been as much of a cult around a political figure as conservatives with Trump, who have literally tied their entire personal identity around him.

You bring up all these things, but it’s always the conservatives who are always blocking any oversight, giving tax breaks to the rich, and anything that acts as a benefit to anyone who isn’t a billionaire must be cut.

How about I pull up Eisenhower’s policies from the 50s, the tax rates, government programs, and his disdain for the privatization of the military industry? You try to institute anything number for number that he had, it’s ‘socialism.’ You conservatives are the ones that went off the deep end since the Civil Rights movement.

          3. Indy, it is a simple comparison of facts and current events witch point to the lack of equal or even factual reporting from both sides and how the “news” is playing such a role in the american political landscape not a gotcha moment, simply showing the hypocrisy that you are slinging.

The hatred for this president for many is rooted in these lies and manipulation of the facts create the emotions that are rooted in poison soil.

The media manipulation we see should have each of us worried.

Back on the f-ing tax breaks…. Do you know how much I pay in taxes every year? I started my companies in August of 2008 at the age of 29 dumping all I have to bail out my coworkers that were w/o jobs and have been able to expand and create jobs and employment for 150+ employees and countless family members that count on these only to give up, until recently, 40% of my earnings to put my ass and my family’s lively hood on the line every day. Do you go all in every day? Do you bet on the great jobs that hardworking everyday people do every day? It could all end tomorrow for me but is that the system’s fault? Would that be the president’s fault?

Having this discussion with you just makes my blood boil, we are not entitled to anything in this country, we need to work our ass off everyday to make this world better for all of those that live in it and STOP with the shit that is going on here blaming the rest of the world.

          4. I don’t need the media to give me facts or to form hatred, his own words and actions do it themselves. And BTW I work just as hard and probably quite a bit smarter than you – while working on my third degree – and probably know quite a bit more about the ‘inside baseball’ of why the conservative privatization focus is a load of bull.

You complain about forming a business and tax rates, but what happens when Trump’s 2017 corporate tax cuts give companies a slush fund to buy back stocks so executives can raise their compensation with their stock options? Or buy out competition to undercut businesses like the one it sounds like YOU run out of business.

Somehow you’ve equated those problems with liberals, when it’s him and the GOP that are doing it. Just because you can’t comprehend it, either because you’re ignorant of it or don’t understand it, doesn’t make the GOP any less culpable.

When people like Trump and Paul Ryan try to pay off Chinese companies like Foxconn with huge incentives to come to Wisconsin, spend taxpayer’s money to build infrastructure around this plant that’s never been build, for jobs that never came, and paying upwards of half a million per low-paying job – who’s to blame?

You say all this stuff like Donald Trump and the GOP have your back, when they’re the ones causing the problems. They fund huge companies with corporate welfare to undercut you at every turn, if you bail out your employees – well who’s the one who makes policies to put you in that spot anyway? There’s not even the slightest safety net for anything in this country, yet they’ll gladly funnel that money to Jeff Bezos.

You talk about hard work, well, when you’re at work and Donald Trump has spend $140,000,000 of those tax dollars you pool into on golf – what about that? What about when Trump’s buddies pull from from the ‘small business fund’ as a blank check and every effort for transparency name the businesses to make sure those who should get it, did get it, is denied?

I’ve never seen a group of people who get so angry about the other side and directly vote against their cause. You lecture about working hard, then go and happily give your dollars to corrupt scum like Trump and McConnell, or executives who sit on their asses all days in conference calls and little else, to spend YOUR money to live like gods.

You don’t have to blame the ‘other side’ – you’ve done the damage to yourself with your own votes and your pockets out to support them.

          5. Midwest Conservative said: “… we are not entitled to anything in this country, we need to work our ass off everyday to make this world better for all of those that live in it…”

Just curious, MidCon – Do you think this is an accurate description of Donald Trump’s life? Or is it the polar opposite, and therefore the reason so many despise him and feel we must replace him as President at the earliest possible opportunity?

Oh, and I can’t stand you because you are always attacking those who are opposed to Donald Trump. That makes you his defender and supporter. Why, BTW? Is it straight up greed? That is what Steverino states as his reason, and you seem to be two of a kind.

Now, I have to get back to living my life, which apparently is very sad and victimized. Thanks for letting me know that! I would not have guessed.

          6. Not even going to read the responses

I apologize for my lack of composure today.

Had an event that was the straw and I apologize to each of you for being an ass and picking fights

          7. Fair enough Midwest, for what it’s worth I don’t think any small business owner should have to sleep 3-4 hours a night and have the burden of worrying about employees who may be living paycheck to paycheck with no safety net.

I guess we’ll agree to disagree on the methodology. Whereas you can find on an anecdotal level someone gaming the system in person, and use that to form your worldview, you’re not sitting in a restaurant while a board meeting is going on seeing what someone is doing to your business and employees at a higher level that causes you to be put in this position to begin with.

When tax cuts go through in 2017 so corporations can get billions in tax relief that goes directly to executives to buy back stock to increase their wealth, or a war chest to undercut small businesses like yours, you get pennies. Or some buddy of the administration is pulling funding for their own gain from the no interest small business loan fund, that takes it away from people like you, because there’s no checks and balances or transparency in it.

When some employees is working paycheck to paycheck to pay rent because some private equity firm bought up a bunch of ‘investment properties’ after the recession and is squeezing them to live, it shouldn’t be your burden. And it shouldn’t be your burden to worry about insurance of an employee who is a medical event away from ruin, because we’ve decided as a system that keeping people alive should be a profit center for insurance and pharmaceutical companies, among others.

I guess we’ll disagree with that. I support doing the right thing with all of the above, even though quite honestly working in the industries that makes those thing a profit center, would put me out of a job if it weren’t.

While I can get mad all day about the societal ills in front of my face, like you have, with people not doing the right thing, they’re the output of the system. It’s not helping anyone a bit to focus on the inevitable result of human nature and curse at the moon to make them conform, while not addressing who’s formed the system to take your money and make your life generally worse to begin with. But we’ll agree to disagree on that.

    1. I am an ex Australian Army Officer who served during the cold War in Intelligence and Signals.
