Shortcut to the full report for Monday
There was one positive sign in Monday’s report. The national testing rate dropped for the fourth consecutive day.
Other things did not go as well:
- Hospitalizations and ICU bed occupancy increased again, as did the number of COVID patients on ventilators.
- Sunday’s fatality rate had been 40% higher than last week, and Monday’s percentage increase was in the 30s.
- 47 of the 50 states are still in the red zone for new infections. (Vermont and Maine managed to join Hawaii in the safety zone.)
- Wyoming topped ever country in the world in both key indicators (new cases per capita and new fatalities per capita). It’s not easy to top every country in the fatality rate, as many of those countries treat viral disease with chicken soup and expired tubes of Ben-Gay.
