She is one of the film industry’s most amazing success stories. A little more than a decade ago, she was working in some of the worst, most amateurish movies you have ever seen, like Hannah Takes the Stairs and Baghead, and now she is writing and directing award-worthy films starring A-listers, and has three Oscar nominations on her resume. Whoda thunk it? I’m not sure how she pulled that off, but she has always been competent, even in those crappy mumblecore films, so perhaps her success is a tribute to the American dream of advancing through hard work and intelligence. Anyway, that’s the story I like best, so I’m sticking to it.
