  1. I’m not so sure about Harrison. He was writing a lot of Indian-based snoozy sitar/tabla stuff with deep spiritual lyrics that didn’t really fit in with the band. They cherrypicked his best stuff and blew off the rest, probably rightly so. He got some measure of revenge with a great 1st solo album, but pretty much shot his load and wasn’t able to do much else memorable except for the occasional pop ditty that hit the top 100, usually complaining about something like taxes or lawsuits. Granted, some of his stuff that got stifled almost certainly had to be better than Lennon’s drug shit like Revolution #9 or What’s the New Mary Jane, but I do think they were wise enough to cherrypick him and not weigh albums down with his eccentric spiritual interests/instrumentation.

  2. Wow, that looks absolutely fantastic.

I’ve always regretted three things about the Beatles:

    1) Though maybe obvious, that they broke up. It would have been so interesting to see where they would’ve gone musically, and both Abbey Road and Let It Be demonstrate that they were anything but out of gas creatively as a band.

Though very good, John and Paul, unfortunately, we’re not equal to the sum of the two post-Beatles (although it can be argued that George flourished),

    2) That John & Paul didn’t allow George to contribute more. The material that he did contribute, along with his post-Beatles work, shows that he had a lot to add. In fairness, this was partly his own fault, as by most accounts he wasn’t particularly aggressive in trying to get his stuff included.

    3) That John and Paul didn’t take Lorne Michaels’ offer to appear on SNL for $3,000, something that was on the show as a bit, but apparently was actually considered by the two. How fantastic would that have been?
