  1. Why does everyone think their opinions on subjective things matters to everyone else?

I don’t know any famous person well. No matter how many times I watch them in public interviews. I suppose you don’t know this one personally, either. I could be wrong. You could correct me. That’d show me who’s boss.

I was familiar with Silverman’s schtick from way back. It was edgy & fun, for then. She’s had to change some with the public & the times. I’m not sure it’s been all good. Now I’ll listen to her for a little while. Maybe I’m not as interested as I used to be. But her act isn’t her. That’s all I’m saying.

Turns out she’s not half bad as an actress. Still don’t mean I know her. Different but still a schtick. She has over 100 acting credits stretching back over 2 decades. Including Star Trek Voyager & Monk. She was good in them.

Likeable’s a nice weasel word. One that really says more about you than it does about her.

    1. Well, you seem to show up here to either proclaim or denounce as if you think your opinion reigns. Bucking for Steverino’s old slot?

      1. Yes, you’re right. I do have opinions, too. And acting ability is subjective. On that, I stand guilty, as charged.

But if I waste a lot of words ARGUING my case, it’s precisely because my opinion does NOT reign. I don’t think that, and if you believe that I do think so, you aren’t paying attention. Which no one compels you to do. Particularly, I suspect someone like you just doesn’t like me very much. Nor the things that I say, which I do hope is about all you know about me. I never have been trying to make friends here. Just talk. Prompted by talk by others here, whom I’ve found to be stimulating, insightful & diverse. My opinion of you is every bit as unsubstantiated as yours of me.

      2. For what it’s worth, Bill, I see myself as low on the totem pole, not high. Tanner & Indy are critical because it’s a lot easier than to be constructive. And because they’re mad as hell & why shouldn’t they be?

I tend to be fairly negative as I don’t have the imagination & creativity to stay positive. If I can’t see light at the end of the tunnel, I tend to decide rather too quickly that there simply isn’t any. I tend to be cranky because I see it as a privilege I’ve earned merely by living too long. I’ve either gotten what I’d wanted or failed & given up on things I used to be deluded enough to aspire to.

This won’t be the last time Zeynep already expressed an idea of mine far better than I can. This is a good, short read & even the comments add more great info, too.

        1. Mike, actually I just thought you were being a little woofy about someone using the word likeable. The only two people I actually dislike haven’t shown up here lately. One hasn’t shown up since before Nov. 4. And here I’ve been ready to offer him a tissue.
