When she did this scene, it didn’t draw that much attention because she wasn’t very well known. Although she was 19 and making her nude debut, she attracted no support in our annual poll of the best nude scenes. I think it would be different if she had done this scene this year. The Kissing Booth films have since put her on the map, and she seems on the cusp of stardom.
I think it got no support because it’s not a great scene. It’s shot from the back, it’s very quick, not much is shown, and it’s safe to say King doesn’t exactly look glamorous in the role.
I’ve been a fan of hers since the Conjuring when her performance and Wan’s direction and absolutely nothing else lead to one of the scariest scenes in the film. Just shadows and a door. No effects, nothing. She’s GOOD.
But yes, she grew up gorgeous, and it’s only a matter of time before we see more of her in better light, and I think we’ll have a scene of the year contender.
