Bill Murray’s ‘Inappropriate Behavior’ Led to Aziz Ansari Movie Production Shutdown

Bill Murray behaved inappropriately? There’s a shocker! Don’t you hire Murray BECAUSE he will behave inappropriately?

(Kidding aside, I guess judgment should hinge on the nature of the inappropriate behavior. I am assuming he didn’t go full Polanski, but I don’t know that.)

  1. Bill’s a drunk. Combine that with moodiness, longtime fame, tons of money, and a strong sense of arrogant entitlement, and you get situations like this. He thinks he’s untouchable, and obviously was right for all these years, but I think he’s gonna find out the hard way that things have changed. Shutting down an entire production due to the surly behavior of one drunk… that’s serious stuff in Hollywood. On the other hand though, if you can shoot & kill someone and completely get away with it like Alec, maybe Bill will get off this time too.

  2. Hollywood continues to shoot themselves in the foot. Murray supposedly threw an ashtray at Richard Dreyfuss as well as got into some verbal and physical altercations with others. How will any Hollywood movies get completed or be any good if every movie was stopped because a talented person threw a fit? I’m sure this is no different than any other Murray issue from the past. Hollywood will probably continue to slide anyway as the tremendous competition nowadays will continue to eat away their profits, but they could at least smarten up and give themselves a fighting chance. The current Netflix “correction” is basically Wall Street realizing that a few large companies aren’t going to be able to monopolize media on the internet the way it was monopolized on cable tv. No one loves a monopoly more than Wall Street and media monopolies will exist no more.

  3. Murray was previously accused of misconduct by his Charlie’s Angels costar Lucy Liu, who recalled him berating her on the set of the 2000 movie after she and costars reworked one scene during a rehearsal for which he was not present.

    1. Yeah, but you don’t shut down a movie set because somebody berates somebody else, unless he took a huge dump on Aziz Ansari himself (which is certainly possible).

I’m assuming that his behavior must have been more transgressive than that.

(Plus that Lucy Liu thing was her side of the story, and was not universally supported by observers, although everyone agreed that he did tell her that she couldn’t act. So he was certainly provocative, and I guess you could call that inappropriate because he wasn’t the director, but something like that is not likely to shut down production.)

At this point I’m withholding judgment until more details emerge.

        1. Not studios funding a movie. They just threw away a huge chunk of cash.

If it could be hushed up, paid away, they’d have done it.

This is something else, even if it’s something that would have been written off as “oh Bill, you card” in the past.

Either it’s a big thing, or, more likely, he did something that got out of hand with someone who isn’t shutting up or going away for any amount of cash.

He’s old, he’s weird, something goes a little sideways with someone who isn’t going to take anything less than 100% seriously and that’s that.

I don’t buy that he did anything malicious, doesn’t fit his MO over the years. He’s been a dick to people, and petty, but not sexual or anything of the sort.
