Kind of interesting sidebar: Secretariat ran at a faster average speed (37.5 mph) in the longest Triple Crown race (Belmont) than in the shortest (37.4 in the Preakness). That’s one reason why he won the Belmont so easily. He simply had almost no fatigue factor, and was still pulling away in the last quarter mile.
Loved the Bangles. Great band, Their own stuff was outstanding, and they were as good a covers band as could be. I remember Vicki Peterson saying that their goal was Yardbirds level for instrumental and Fairport Convention for vocals. They never quite reached those levels, even if they had the balls to try to cover peak Beck-era Yardbirds (they did “I’m not Talking” as an encore). Did great shows with great taste in opening acts: Hoodoo Gurus both times I saw them.
My crush, if I had one, was Michael Steele the bass player, who has not aged nearly as well as Hoffs.

I came here to counterclaim Jane Wiedlin, but she’s only one year older and let her hair go full gray a few years back. That definitely knocked her down a few pegs below Hoffs.
