Elizabeth Hurley topless in Rowing With the Wind (1988)

As I’ve mentioned too many times before, Elizabeth Hurley comes close to living her life backwards. She looks much better now, at 57, than she looked in this film, at 22 or 23.

Except for the breasts.

As Hugh Grant pointed out, with the gentlemanly subtlety that is his trademark, young Liz had “the best boobs in London.”

As for the movie itself, the one-sentence summary is self-reviewing: “Hugh Grant plays Lord Byron.” Unless “Lord Byron” is the name of a card game or a specialized side-bet in golf, you just know that’s gonna suck molasses through a Slurpee straw.

I carve out an exception for the DP. I actually watched this movie and the cinematography by Carlos Suarez is quite good. The movie itself is about as good as you might expect, which is to say it’s not awful, but it’s not worth your time. (5.7 at IMDb)

  1. I often thought that, but upon searching for images I think it is just more the images available and her hairstyle when she was younger. I did not find it hard to find some publicity photos of her from Rowing with the Wind where she looked stunningly beautiful. She must have driven her classmates wild back in school.

    1. I don’t agree with that. She didn’t look that good in Aria with a “normal” hair style, and her teen era looks cute, but not stunning.

Although she did post one pic of herself around high school age that did look pretty dazzling.

Same with her childhood pics – cute, not exceptional

It seems to me that she didn’t learn to control the eyebrows until the mid 90s.

      1. It’s funny. I love Brooke Shields thick eyebrows but the ones on young Elizabeth really did effect her attractiveness. She looks quite boyish and not as feminine as she became. Eyebrow shaping, improved makeup, and I’m sure a little work definitely helped in the 90s.
