And RIP Judith Durham, once Victorian of the Year (think Province) and OZ national institution. There’s a new world somewhere They call the promised land And I’ll be there someday If you could hold my hand I still need you there beside me No matter what I do For I know I’ll never find another you Written by Dusty Springfield’s brother Tom (real name O’Brien). There’s a great video for that song in a studio setting on You Tube. I always loved the way she actually enunciated “fortune”. Gotta say, youse guise gots taste. Boomers taste. Like I’ve. Thanks for the tip, @BDC. Wild guess you mean this one, as it is in a studio. Incidentally, I assume by “she” you mean Judith Durham. And not, for example, Dusty. https://youtube.com/watch?v=TEm7nlfIN-Q I also take it you did not mean this one, as it is not. https://youtube.com/watch?v=4rO-XQrMCMY There’s this OZ farewell performance a few years back. https://youtube.com/watch?v=pBaO6ro1CUc Then there’s this The Seekers 25yr reunion on TV singing Georgy Girl. That’d be my earliest memory of this group, from when I was but a wee lad. https://youtube.com/watch?v=I5zkPcunzfY Then there’s this 50yrs anniversary. The 25yrs dated from their breakup. The 50yrs is from their earliest incarnation. https://youtube.com/watch?v=eCLWWTsWdME All in all, there were a number of groups & singers like The Seekers, back in the day. Back in high school, when I was into Tom Lehrer, I also liked The Limeliters. But there were many others. It never ceases to amaze me how prolific hit songwriters used to be. Among them, too, Joni Mitchell & Judy Collins. Hadn’t thought of Joni for years. But just a couple weeks ago, there was this. Good to see Joni smile & wave to the crowd at the end. There’s an additional verse of the song Georgy Girl over the end credits that can be found on YouTube. Thanks, Adam. I’m sure I’ll remember the words once I hear them again. Mostly nostalgia at this point. I’ve spent a fair while at this now. I do so willingly, at intervals. I do tread sort of a fat swath of music trails. BTW, ditto to RIP Judith Durham. And Dusty Springfield died too young. I’ve never done enough to deserve the gift of the songs they left us. Agree on all of the above. And if you’re not already familiar with her work, I strongly urge you to discover Sandy Denny, who was only 31 when she died in 1978. Never got a chance to break big in the U.S. Thanks, @DG. Will pursue. And RIP Clu Gulager, who might have had the coolest name ever. He usually stood out in every scene he was in. Oh, and he banged Cybil Shepherd in “The Last Picture Show” Beauts!
