Her character resorts to desperate measures to retain her beauty, as she is the king’s mistress and some 15 years his senior. The gold bath is one of her techniques. This is the only time they have shown her doing that, and in the following scenes she is shown to have a skin rash, so I guess it was not an entirely successful experiment.
(The script does not explain precisely what is in the gold bath.)
