Man, those extra-curricular activities have sure changed since I was a youngster. We had a checkers club and cub scouts.

I taught high school when I was a young man, and I was the moderator of The Divine Right of Kings Club. The group was small since membership was restricted to those who had the divine right to rule. I’m not kidding. A bunch of the honors kids created the club and even applied to use the school’s display window for a week, which was their right. The display included things like Richard Lionheart, people wearing the Imperial Margarine crown, and club members wearing cheesy five-and-dime crowns like the ones in Halloween costumes. They had custom signs painted up, and had all the pics surrounded by those tiny Christmas lights. Pretty creative.

I was also in charge of the morning announcements, and I let the kids mix all sorts of bogus items, including various DRoK activities, in with the real news. They actually persuaded at least one kid to ask where he could buy tickets to the Underwater Formal.
