Mahomes won the season MVP and Super Bowl MVP

He’s the first player to accomplish that in this century.

Two great teams, evenly matched. The way it should be.

I’m not sure what the experts chose as the key play of the game, but I have to go with that 65-yard punt return by Kardarius Toney.

  1. It seemed like the 25th man on the field was the the paint job…how could they get that so wrong with months to prepare? Players were slipping like it was mud.

  2. This was the fourth time that the top-two MVP vote getters in the SB faced each other . . . and the first time that the MVP won (1981: Ken Anderson vs. Joe Montana, 2009: Peyton Manning vs. Drew Brees, 2016: Matt Ryan vs. Tom Brady).

The punt return was as big as any, but you also have Hurts’ fumble and of course the holding call (which I felt was legit).

Except for the fumble, I would have seriously considered giving Hurts the game MVP, even if they had lost.

  3. From Wikipedia:

Eleven players have won the Super Bowl and MVP in the same season: Bart Starr in 1966, Terry Bradshaw in 1978, Mark Moseley in 1982, Lawrence Taylor in 1986, Joe Montana in 1989, Emmitt Smith in 1993, Steve Young in 1994, Brett Favre in 1996, Terrell Davis in 1998, Kurt Warner in 1999, and Patrick Mahomes in 2022.
