NBC announces lineup of Democrats for each night of first 2020 debate

Hickenlooper mania is on the march!

I’m already working on my Hickenlooper costume for Halloween.

The match-ups were determined by the luck of the draw:

Booker, Pocahontas, Beto and Klobuchar will go on Wednesday. Like any good sporting season, the ceremony will begin with the National Anthem and Klobuchar throwing out the first binder.

The second night will feature Hickenlooper …

… and some lesser, almost insignificant figures like Biden, Sanders, Harris and Mayor Pete. (Have you guessed that I can’t spell his last name? I know it begins with “Butt.”)

This night will also include a ringer, which could be a lot of fun. Do you recall the episode of Veep when Jonah only qualified for the second tier of candidates and therefore had to debate against Dumbledore? Well, Biden and Sanders will have to contend with their own Dumbledore – new age guru Marianne Williamson, who somehow made the cut into the final 20, even though the governor of Montana (a Democrat who won a red state) was eliminated. She will present a fascinating and possibly strange contrast to the mainstream pols.

  1. If you check some of the websites where semi-political experts post, Steve Bullock was generally listed as a potential front-runner. What seemed to happen to both him and Seth Moulton is that they both formally entered the race very late relative to the other candidates and they clearly couldn’t catch up to meet the criteria to make the debate.

If you check out Marianne Williamson’s website, yes, she is a new-age guru, but her website has surprisingly detailed and well thought out policy positions. Despite her background, she is taking the race seriously so it’s not a surprise that some people are treating her as a serious candidate.

Regarding Steve Bullock and John Hickenlooper, along with Jay Inslee, they are the only governors in the race. With Bullock not making the debate, and with Jay Inslee running as a ‘one issue candidate’ (climate change), there is a slim possibility my guy Hickenlooper could build support based on those who want a candidate with elected executive experience beyond being a small city mayor (not including Bill De Blasio who is hated by everybody or Julian Castro, the former Mayor of San Antonio who couldn’t even put up a decent website.)
