“On My Own is a 1991 Australian/Canadian/Italian co-production about a teen boy Simon (Matthew Ferguson from the La Femme Nikita TV series) who is shipped off to a boarding school in Canada while his father works in Hong Kong and his mother (Judy Davis) is living with her new beau in England and is in and out of hospital. At school, he makes friends through playing football and has a crush on a girl (Rachel Blanchard) but doesn’t know how to talk to her. When his mother visits him at the school, he finds out the reason why she’s in and out of hospital.
Fairly forgettable drama, nothing all that remarkable about it. Probably why it’s near impossible to find. And while it’s clearly more a Canadian movie, it was funded by Australian money and is helped by Judy Davis playing one of major roles.”
