They have taken back Bruce Willis’s Razzie!

During the awards show this past weekend, there was a special category for “Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie.” He appeared in eight low-budget films last year and he was nominated for all of them, ultimately “winning” for Cosmic Sin.

“After much thought and consideration, the Razzies have made the decision to rescind the Razzie Award given to Bruce Willis, due to his recently disclosed diagnosis. If someone’s medical condition is a factor in their decision making and/or their performance, we acknowledge that it is not appropriate to give them a Razzie.”

In other words, “Yes, we noticed that his acting sucked, and was therefore Razzie-worthy, but we now realized he cheated to win that award. Using a brain disorder to suck at acting is the equivalent of using steroids to hit home runs.”

I can’t really agree with their decision. It’s seems to me that all really bad actors have a brain disorder, the symptom of which … is bad acting. Consider Nic Cage, Tom Green, Steven Segal, OJ Simpson – even the greatest bad actor of them all, our own muse, the great Bill Shatner. All of those guys have a few splinters in the windmills of their minds.

OK, you caught me. Roger Moore is an exception.

  1. On the contrary, I agree with their decision. I get that the Razzies are a joke thing and all that, but it seems in poor taste to pick on a guy suffering from a degenerative disease, not to mention punching down.

    1. I was just doing schtick. All kidding aside, I think the Razzies did the right thing.

If they had known about the diagnosis a few days earlier, they certainly would have eliminated that category, so why should a few days change anything?

  2. The point is that he’s been choosing roles for the quick money because he knew he wouldn’t be able to act shortly. He had to earn as much as possible as soon as possible. Now he has become too ill to work.

  3. Bruce has been dialing in his performances for several years now – often times only working 1 or 2 days, and collecting a couple million dollars. I’m sorry for his condition, but not sure it was really behind his recent performances. Here a link to an article about it

    1. I still have to give the guy a tip o’ the hat. He made eight movies last year. They were bad movies, and he wasn’t good in them, but he got through eight movies while struggling with coherence, and was at least comprehensible in all of them. I’m guessing it was a difficult time for him, as well as for his co-workers.

      1. Bruce may have his condition to blame but these “filmmakers” knew what they were doing when they would hire Bruce for a day or two’s work to line his pockets and be able to put his face and name on the DVD/thumbnail image for what is often a glorified cameo. I’m sure anyone making a movie with Bruce in the last year knew they weren’t going to get an A-1 performance.

        1. Very true. They knew exactly what they were getting, and they paid him for the privilege of using his name in their marketing and placing his picture on the Blu-Ray box. One can’t really fault him for backing up the Brink’s truck to take their money.
