“Despite low national approval ratings and the specter of impeachment, President Trump remains highly competitive in the battleground states likeliest to decide his re-election”

The Times evaluated six battleground states that went for Trump in 2016.

* While Trump trails Biden, four states to one, with one toss-up, all six are still within his grasp.

* In contrast, Warren’s farther-left approach has not proved appealing in these purple states. Trump is beating her in three states to her one, with two loss-ups, and Warren’s one lead is within the margin of error.

* A significant fact is that Warren is weaker than Biden in all six of the states which may well determine the election. Warren plays especially poorly in Michigan and Florida.

Trump tweeted that Governor Newsom has “done a terrible job of forest management.”

Trump is partially correct. Affected industries, fire fighters and private analysts generally agree that too little has been done to manage some of the California forests. You might say that they are being managed incompetently. In fact, you might go so far as to say that the vast majority of California’s forests are under the control of a complete idiot. But it’s not California’s governor.

Specifically, it’s this guy:

Fortunately for the idiot in question, his own stupidity, which really ought to implicate him, actually has exonerated him, because he has misunderstood so many details that they kind of cancel each other out! It’s the rare case where two wrongs DO make a right. How can that be? While it is true that the federal government is in charge of most of the California forests, it’s also true that the forests have little to do with the wildfires. “The vast majority of the acres consumed by fire since early October were grasslands and chaparral, far from the forests.”

Fox, WaPo/ABC and NBC/WSJ all arrived at the same conclusion: 49% want Trump removed. The three polls reached slightly different numbers on those opposed to removal, but they were all virtually and statistically identical, ranging from 45 to 47%.

Trump countered that those are only the lamestream scientific polls. His top secret imaginary polls show him being supported by 107% of the population.

The two new polls this week show Biden with approximately a 10-point edge over Trump in a one-on-one race. (9 points on WSJ, 12 points on Fox.) Trump also loses to Warren and Sanders, albeit by smaller margins than to Biden. He is, however, even with Buttigieg, so he’s got that goin’ for ‘im.

Trump’s support base is becoming ever narrower. Right now he reaches 50% approval among only two demographics: white protestants and poorly-educated white men (there is probably significant overlap there).

Of special concern is that he now has a disapproval rating of 22% among Republicans, including a 15% “strongly disapprove,” despite the fact that Congressional Republicans are all following him like lemmings.

Snark aside, the reality is that she refused to condemn the Armenian genocide.

All the lefty pundits had a field day when Trump failed to condemn Nazis. There’s exactly one thing as clearly condemnable as Nazis – genocide. Let’s watch to see the liberal hypocrisy on this one.

The Daily Mail covered this in some depth

She has now resigned. Here is “A Guide to the Incredibly Complicated Katie Hill Scandal.” OK, I confess. I didn’t read it. I looked down the page, and nobody was naked.

Follow-up:

About two weeks ago, I noted that RCP’s poll summary had made Elizabeth Warren the official front-runner. She is now back-running.

As of now, RCP’s composite says:

Biden 28
Warren 22
Sanders 18
Buttigieg 7
Harris 5

The only poll taken this week (Politico) is quite consistent with that:

Biden 32
Warren 20
Sanders 20
Buttigieg 7
Harris 6

On the other hand, Biden’s lead over Trump has dropped to about 7. That may drop further when the polls are recent enough to include the deaths of Baghdadi and some of his lieutenants.

And we certainly never supported ye

This is one case where Trump’s ridicule was justly deserved. Ryan was constantly befuddled in the early debates. At one point Ryan rose above absolute zero in the polls, and I was shocked. I found myself wondering who in the world, of all the choices available to Americans, would conclude that Ryan was “the one” for the White House.

Irony of the day:

Can you imagine an administration investigating its political opponents?” said the president.

Short answer: YES.

Trump never seems to understand the implications of what he says. If investigating political opponents is treason, then he is accusing himself of a crime which carries the death penalty!

NOTE: It would be nice if Trump confessed to treason, but no matter who did it, it is not treason. It could, however, be criminal if the investigation had no legitimate purpose and provided no benefit to the public. Obviously, if a political opponent were to commit crimes, he or she should be and would be investigated like any other criminal. Politicians are not automatically immune from criminal investigation. (Thank heaven, because so many of them ARE criminals.)

I’m not joking. That was really their argument. No matter what crimes he commits. That means if he commits crimes where the statute of limitations is shorter than his term of office, he is literally above the law!

The judges were aghast.

If, for example, he did pull out a handgun and shoot someone on Fifth Avenue. I’m talking about while in office. Nothing could be done? That’s your position?” Judge Denny Chin asked.

“That is correct,” Consovoy said.

Opening statement of Ambassador William B. Taylor

Short version: “Everything Ukraine wanted — from a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to hundreds of millions in security aid — was dependent on publicly announcing an investigation that included Burisma, the company that hired Biden’s son Hunter, and Ukraine’s alleged involvement in the 2016 election.”

Shorter version: Trump very, very corrupt. As the jury foreman said in The Producers:

Oh, and by the way, for those of you who believe the obviously false White House spin that Trump was really trying to fight corruption: “Trump administration sought billions of dollars in cuts to programs aimed at fighting corruption in Ukraine.”

Trump fighting corruption? Talk about the fox guarding the henhouse! That might have been the least believable lie ever, even worse than Rudy’s claim that he was going to Vienna for a completely different purpose from meeting with Lev and Igor, and was only planning to meet with them when they returned (He cancelled the trip when they were arrested, and they had one-way tickets to begin with.)

Years ago, when All in the Family was the most controversial show on TV, nobody could imagine that we would someday elect Archie Bunker to be the POTUS.

Sidebar: so how does this affect Trump’s perception of Mike Pence?

Here, he notes that gas prices are high, and suggests that California shouldn’t insist on fuel-efficient cars!

Always thinking outside the box! Needless to say, if cars were less fuel-efficient, Californians would use more gas, therefore spending even more of their budgets on fuel.

And with this kicker – as they use more gas, an increase in demand is more likely to make prices increase, not decline, so Californians would not only use more gas, but would probably also pay more per gallon!

Gee, I can’t understand why he went bankrupt so many times.
